Groups and Ministries at IPC

Power Packs

Once a month, a dedicated group of IPC volunteers puts together packages of non-perishable food in partnership with Food for Others. These packages are distributed to children on Fridays through the schools to help them have enough to eat over the weekend.  

Jacob's Backpack Brigade

In August, the congregation assembles backpacks full of school supplies for needy students at Lemon Road Elementary School.  This is in memory of Jacob Osman, who was a child in the congregation and a student at Lemon Road.

Choir

Our choir rehearses before worship every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. We sing in worship three times a month. On the third Sunday, we welcome the Braeded Chord who leads the congregation musically. Our choir encompasses a variety of musical abilities, including children and adults, trained singers, and those who sing by ear. We'd love to have you!

Braeded Chord 

Come out on the third Sunday of each month, when the Braeded Chord leads the congregation in singing contemporary Christian music.  The Braeded Chord is an acoustic duo that truly offers something for everyone.  Their music strikes a universal chord, with its inclusion of multiple genres for all generations.  Performing songwriters Sharon Dennis (guitar) and Doris MacDonald (keyboard) write and perform original songs and give a twist to familiar music.  The musical partnership of the Braeded Chord began while the two were performing in the contemporary praise band of a local Baptist church in Northern Virginia, and soon extended throughout Virginia, with tours to Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Texas, Michigan, Hawaii, and even Kenya and Haiti.  They have released five CDs and received several recognitions for their songwriting and performance, including seven WAMMIE awards for Best Inspirational/Gospel Duo and Best Inspirational/Gospel Recording.

Larrick Scholarship

IPC annually endows one scholarship for a worthy student at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond.  The recipient preaches two sermons at IPC, one in the fall and another in the spring.

Mission Opportunities

IPC gathers throughout the year for a variety of group mission opportunities, whether for a rummage sale, providing meals for the local homeless shelter, or participating in the CROP Hunger Walk and the CASA Walk for abused and neglected children.

Retreats

IPC gathers several times a year for an extended time of fellowship and growth. In 2013 we had three retreats: a day-long prayer retreat in the spring, an overnight retreat on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and a leadership retreat in the fall.
